Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. The couple moved to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five where she attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma realized that she wanted to be an actress and for many years she studied at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught performing and singing. From the age of 10 she was involved and played the leading role in numerous Stagecoach Productions and School Plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was cast in the year 1999. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times, she and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film was also one of the top-rated films in 2001. Opening weekday and weekend the sales were record breaking. Reviewers praised the film and particularly the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma's performance was recognized and later won awards for the film.
